Open Minis in a rush to block YouTube
We got back late from a birthday party and I was making pizzas while my son and friends were playing Nintendo and getting ready for a sleepover. Nine extra kids on the network and eight extra Switch consoles.
Past experience reminded me how some of the kids liked to use the YouTube app on their Switches to watch stuff not entirely appropriate for our younger daughters, who were also hanging out with the slightly older kids (nothing terrible, mostly just remixed ‘Peppa Pig’).
What I needed to do was get to my network ad-blocker pihole, and l get a block in place. Which is difficult to do manually when you’re also making pizzas.
So I tried Open Minis, the open source AI tool on my phone. I’d previously given it basic access to Cerebro on the Mac Mini but not expressly more. Using the voice agent I told it:
“Can you get onto my pie hole on the network you'll find the instructions are sitting in the vault for cerebral. I need you to disable all YouTube traffic please”
And…yeah. It did it. One minor quibble about how to access the pihole, but in a few short minutes the job was done.
I know roughly how many steps that would’ve taken me manually and that I would have likely bodged dinner if I tried to multitask it. I am genuinely impressed.
